“Doctored”– great documentary supporting alternative health!

Hi all!  I just wanted to take a quick minute to make sure you all know about a great new documentary now showing in small/independent theaters across the country.  I think it is very important to support this film and these courageous filmmakers.

I was lucky enough to be part of a sneak preview of “Doctored” hosted by my alma mater, Life University, where we got to watch the film and hear a few words from the filmmaker and director.

I enjoyed watching the film, which started out (to the delight of the chiropractic audience), telling the story of the hidden history of chiropractic in the 20th century.  This history was defined by the American Medical Association’s well documented attempts to contain and eliminate the profession.  These operations by the AMA eventually lead to the Wilk trial in the 1980s, in which chiropractors won in an anti-trust suit agains the medical profession. The rest of the movie focused on telling the stories of a wide range of patients and alternative health practitioners.

After the film, one of the filmmakers jokingly referred to the movie as “the Doctor Zhivago” of health documentaries.  The film did manage to cover a lot of ground in under 2 hours, managing to touch on the movements against genetically modified foods, as well as the anti-vaccines movement.

I personally was a little worried when vaccines came up in the film, as it is a debate that tends to turn a lot of people off.  But I think the filmmakers did a great job of presenting just enough information to raise questions, but not beat us over the head with the issue.

The LA times gave the film a great review, even though they did note that it is basically a “one sided commercial for chiropractic.”  I think chiropractic was long overdue for a one-sided commercial, and I think that this movie has the power to change a lot of people’s lives for the better, just by bringing chiropractic into view and raising important questions about the medical profession and pharmaceutical industries.  Go check it out!
