How should you get ready for your adjustments?

How do you prepare for care? What should we be focusing on before, during, and after our adjustments? Fantastic morning to you, New Day!  I hope you are having a great week so far. Thanks, as usual, to my lovely practice members and their comments and questions, I have recently begun to more deeply consider what a person “should” be doing before, during, and after their adjustments. Now I know some of you might be reading this and are already becoming panicked (especially the “upholders” and the “obligers”– and if you don’t know what I mean by that CLICK HERE!).  Breathe!  This discussion is NOT going to leave you with that dreaded “I’ve been doing it wrong!” feeling.  This is actually a very energy rich topic that can be considered from multiple perspectives (far beyond what will be possible in this blog). Your care is a participatory process.  As in, ... ...Read More...

Health care vs self care

/ / Blog
Health care vs self care If all we needed was a chocolate bar and a bath. . . You guys!  And I know that you are not all men, but I like saying “you guys!” sometimes 🙂 I have wanted to write this blog for SUCH a long time.  It’s been on my mind. And then, last night, something happened to remind me to do this. I was chatting with some new acquaintances at an event here in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago, and we began discussing our mutual love of cute animal videos.  Specifically, if you’re interested, we discussed cross-species friendship videos (we post a lot of these on our New Day Facebook btw). One of the women said, half joking, “Watching those videos is my self-care!  I just need to watch them every day, and then I’m good!” We all had a laugh, of course, because we all agree that ... ...Read More...

Introducing Practice Member of the Month for September 2018!

We are so grateful for who you are, the progress that you continue to make, and the commitment you have made to your spinal health and wellness. You are making the world a better place! We honor you this month and thank you for being part of our New Day community!   Rowan E. has been in care with Dr. Katie since June 2018 Why I came to New Day – written by my mom, Lisa:   Rowan came to New Day because I was under care the whole time I was pregnant with him.  I know that this care helped contribute to my having a healthy delivery, and helped so that he didn’t have a lot of trauma from or around his birth experience. I remember when I first was pregnant that my friends complained about back pain and sleeplessness, things like that, and this care really helped to ... ...Read More...

It’s so hard to say goodbye! A fond farewell to some of New Day’s brightest lights

/ / Blog
It’s so hard to say goodbye! A fond farewell to some of New Day’s brightest lights  Good morning, New Day! It’s something I never really thought about when I first opened New Day.  Call me naive. But somehow I just thought that once I started taking care of someone, and Network Spinal became an important part of how they take care of their health, energy, and aliveness, that we’d just be in each other’s lives forever.  Yes, changing and growing together.  But more or less “happily ever after.” If you remember several months ago when we were installing our special wall in the adjusting room to honor the practice members who have been in care at New Day for 3 years or more, the question arose: “Why aren’t there more practice members who’ve been here for that long?” There’s one very real reason– people move away! And even though it ... ...Read More...

I’m not the wizard!

/ / Blog
I’m not the wizard And I’m not Glinda either! Good morning, New Day! I say it often, but what a difference perspective makes.  For example, last night I went out to dinner at a restaurant in Chicago where I once worked as a cocktail waitress (a short lived experience). Even though many years have passed, when I walked in I found that I suddenly and momentarily had access to the same emotions and had some of the same thoughts that I did at that time.  In that naive version of reality, I recall assuming that the owners of the restaurant were making money hand over fist, and were certainly very wealthy (as I probably thought that anyone who owned a restaurant would be). Looking at the place last night, from my present vantage point, it seemed hard to understand how they could even stay in business, what with all the ... ...Read More...

Introducing out Practice Member of the Month – August 2018!

We are so grateful for who you are, the progress that you continue to make, and the commitment you have made to your spinal health and wellness. You are making the world a better place! We honor you this month and thank you for being part of our New Day community! Anabella D. has been in care with Dr. Katie since May 2018 Why I came to New Day:   Prior to knowing anything about Network Care (NSA) I had been meditating and have been praying for healing. I was experiencing anxiety and stress, and pain in my body was keeping me from taking action. I was experiencing a sprained ankle and knee pain from 2 years ago, was an insomniac and then started getting headaches, neck pain, and wrist pain. I got massages and acupuncture but it didn’t make any of the pain go away. I was told by ... ...Read More...

Communities of disease vs communities of health

/ / Blog
Communities of disease vs communities of health Which ones do you belong to? Good morning, New Day! Community.  It’s the highest stage of Donny Epstein’s 12 Stages of Healing– when we are in a simultaneous state of giving and receiving and both energize and light us up equally. The quality of our communities defines our experience of health and life in so many realms.  When we are in a state of abundant energy and aliveness, we are able to experience our bodies as a community of energized parts that contribute to a whole that is greater than the sum of the parts.  When the community of our body is in trouble, we experience aches, pains, disease, illness, and separation. When we go to a place do we feel both energized and uplifted, AND the simultaneous ability to energize and uplift?  Or do we have a consistent experience of agitation, annoyance, ... ...Read More...

We are so grateful for who you are, the progress that you continue to make, and the commitment you have made to your spinal health and wellness. You are making the world a better place! We honor you this month and thank you for being part of our New Day community! Jan T. has been in care with Dr. Katie since November 2017 Why I came to New Day:   Last summer, when I was visiting a friend in Philadelphia, I accompanied her to her Network chiropractor and he invited me to climb on a table and experience a treatment.  I immediately felt a strong change in my body and mood and asked for a referral in Chicago. He gave me Dr. Katie’s name and I was delighted to find out that this fabulous healer was just 10 minutes from my home! My chiropractic results: My time with Dr. Katie ... ...Read More...

I could no longer use the word _____________

I could no longer use the word ______  Words create worlds! Great morning to you, New Day!  Happy summer! As you’ve probably noticed in your life, there is a cycle for everything.  Times for working hard.  And times for relaxing.  Times for building.  And times for consolidating. At New Day, we were in a cycle of building leading up to our 5 year anniversary party celebration in April.  After that was more of a time for relaxing and consolidating, until now.  Now, as some of you already know, we are beginning our annual careplan sale. The focus of our sale, which we started last year, is the cream of the crop of our New Day community; our practice members who are in ongoing care with us and have chosen having a healthy spine and nervous system over the long term as a necessary component of their health.  Participating in the ... ...Read More...

We are so grateful for who you are, the progress that you continue to make, and the commitment you have made to your spinal health and wellness. You are making the world a better place! We honor you this month and thank you for being part of our New Day community! Ellen S. has been in care with Dr. Katie since March 2018 Why I came to New Day:   I’ve always had an interest in holistic medicine and I’ve experienced many different holistic modalities including 3 three types of chiropractic and have benefited from them all in some way or another. The common theme was that what seems like little things can make a BIG difference in health and healing, e.g.: – Thoughts were creating your world – Learning to love and appreciate self – Let go of what can’t control – Attitude – have fun, make it fun ... ...Read More...

Which of the 4 are you?

/ / Blog
Which of the 4 are you? I’m obsessed with this right now! Good morning, New Day community! I’m always surprised and impressed when you ask me questions like, “How was your trip?  You were in Utah at the Young Living Convention, right?”  I feel like I can barely remember my own schedule sometimes, and think it’s really thoughtful when you do 🙂 As I’ve been expressing to some of you since I got back to Chicago, the convention was great and Salt Lake City and Utah were AWESOME.  I would love to go back and enjoy Utah more in the future. So in some ways, I got what I was expecting to get out of the convention.  I was able to smell EVERY essential oil at the conference expo (jasmine blew my mind! but more on that later), I got to see one of the Young Living farms up close (the beauty ... ...Read More...

When you slip. . .

/ / Blog
When you slip. . . You slide? Greetings and salutations, New Day community! Have you ever noticed how when you start to slip, you never know it at the time? It’s only something you can see when you look back over the days and weeks. And suddenly it’s crystal clear.  You see it.  That moment you started to slip.  And it all started going downhill. I had an experience of this recently, when I began to realize that I hadn’t been working out as much as usual. Now, if you know me very well, you know that I am a staunch advocate and enthusiast of physical exercise!  And not just physical exercise, but making it a habit to exercise often and to challenge oneself in one’s workouts.  The effects on physical, emotional, and mental health, and just the energy you are able to bring to life are undeniable– both as ... ...Read More...

We honor you this month and thank you for being part of our New Day community! Yesenia D. has been in care with Dr. Katie since March 2018 Why I came to New Day:   I was on Facebook and went into Donny Epstein-Raving Fans (Facebook group). I saw a member of the Facebook group mention they were getting care with Dr. Katie, and that she was in Chicago. Now that I look back it was divine guidance because I was not sure what type of chiropractic care it was but I had a strong impulse to come in.   My chiropractic results: I initially started Network Care by an instinct I had and by ... ...Read More...

We are so grateful for who you are, the progress that you continue to make, and the commitment you have made to your spinal health and wellness. You are making the world a better place! We honor you this month and thank you for being part of our New Day community! Lindsay H. has been under care with Dr. Katie since January 2016 Why I came to New Day:   I heard about New Day and Network Care from my friend and collaborator, Carrie Drapac, who is my co-creatrix at Acts of Ritual. Carrie gave me an overview on the practice, and it was the information that related to the nervous system that attracted me at the time. I was at the beginning stages of going in a layer deeper in my healing at that time. I had been in many healing practices but I was coming more into my ... ...Read More...

You, shining brightly!

/ / Blog
You, shining brightly! When you choose to shine brightly, the communities you are part of will win <3 Good morning, bright and shiny New Day! Whether you’re new to New Day, or have been part of this community and participating in Network Care for years, you’ve probably noticed that we like to use the imagery of brightness and the sun quite a bit 🙂 It was something that I personally always associated with my experience of Network Care and how it helped me in my own health and life, and hence this is the vision I wanted to share with the practice when I opened New Day. Choosing to shine brightly doesn’t always seem easy at first.  Starting any new commitment to your health and wellness takes energy and focus.  Even the pain and discomfort of remaining the same can sometimes feel more comforting than taking responsibility for ourselves and ... ...Read More...

The greatest gift of all

/ / Blog
The greatest gift of all No, it’s not health.  But it’s related to health!  And the reason why I’m so pumped for this 5 year anniversary party! Good morning, shining stars!  It’s so good to connect with you.  Now that it’s 2 days away, I can tell you that I am so excited about the anniversary party on Saturday! I thought I was excited before.  And I was, but I was also very busy with the planning, inviting, etc, and I wasn’t at the point yet where I could look ahead, beyond the activity and responsibilities. Now I get to actually clearly envision the most gratifying aspect of this experience BEING with you, in community! As I often mention, community was the highest vision I had for New Day originally, but I had no idea how beautifully this would all play out, because I didn’t know YOU yet! Many of you ... ...Read More...

You can at least PRETEND it’s spring, with Young Living 😉

Happy, um, spring?! You can at least PRETEND it’s spring, with Young Living 😉 Happy spring, New Day oils enthusiasts! And when I say “happy spring,” I of course do so with my voice dripping with irony.  Ah yes, spring in Chicago.  A time for wind.  A time for sleet.  A time for snow.  A time to wonder if you should bite the bullet and buy another pair of gloves. We know it will get warm eventually, until then, some tips for comforting yourself like you would when it’s winter (but with some flowery, girly, spring smells!) You know what my top recommendation is for coping with April in Chicago, oils wise? JUVAFLEX! Why, you might ask?  I mean, you already may know that Juvaflex has been the oil of the month at New Day at least twice.  That I use it on our practice members at New Day quite ... ...Read More...

So much to celebrate

Good morning, bright ones! If you’ve been to New Day recently, you hopefully have noticed some exciting changes in the physical space of our office.  For one thing, we have new signage in our front windows!  Yes, after almost 5 years I got the “download,” so to speak, that it was time to use that prime window “real estate” to further light up our Lincoln Square neighborhood, and to further broadcast to the world what this care and community is all about to Chicago and the world. I had delayed making the commitment to signage because it felt so permanent, and I wanted to get it right– words, look, tone, all of it.  Something that speaks to why we choose to take care of ourselves through ongoing care for the spine and nervous system.  It’s been really fun to see the reactions of our practice members to the signs, and ... ...Read More...

We are so grateful for who you are, the progress that you continue to make, and the commitment you have made to your spinal health and wellness. You are making the world a better place! We honor you this month and thank you for being part of our New Day community! Hilary J. has been under care with Dr. Katie since July 2016 Why I came to New Day:   My friend and fellow practice member, Cin S., recommended I come in for an evaluation. I was struggling with recurrent respiratory illnesses, plus all sorts of pain in my body that I’d been working on for years.  Cin was having an amazing experience with Dr Katie. When she explained how it works with the nervous system and therefore the issues that underlie the symptoms, I thought it sounded very intriguing and potentially healing. My chiropractic results: Without a doubt my ... ...Read More...

What am I paying for, again?

/ / Blog
What am I paying for, again? On the value of chiropractic Good morning, New Day! You’ve heard it before.  Maybe from your dad.  Maybe from your neighbor or coworker.  Maybe you’ve even thought it yourself before (or still sometimes do). “The problem with chiropractic is that when you start seeing a chiropractor, you have to go forever.  You’re stuck doing it all the time, for the rest of your life.” And who would be sitting there, considering going to a chiropractor for the first time, and think “Oh boy!  I can’t wait to sign up to do something for the rest of my life!” Very few people! It would be like going on a first date with someone and suddenly they’re talking to you about marriage.  And not just as a general concept, but talking about you marrying THEM.  That would be totally weird and uncomfortable, right? Not only would ... ...Read More...
