Does everyone need chiropractic care?

Does everyone need chiropractic care? And if so, should they all be in care at New Day? Your questions– answered! Good afternoon, New Day! Sometimes as chiropractors, we are seen as being overly simplistic in a world where complexity is highly valued. On television medical dramas the doctor who can uncover the the disease diagnosis (at the last minute, of course) is the hero.  And the more obscure the disease diagnosis and the greater amount of detective work that can go into putting it all together, the better. You never saw Dr. House check the heel tension and palpate the upper cervical spine of a patient and say, “There are indicators for adverse mechanical cord tension at C1.  Let’s adjust him so that his brain has the best opportunity possible to express health through the nerves, and THEN see if he needs surgery.”  It might make for a more exciting ... ...Read More...

Introducing our Practice Member of the Month for November 2017!

Congratulations to Elizabeth H., our November 2017 Practice Member of the Month! We are so grateful for who you are, the progress that you continue to make, and the commitment you have made to your spinal health and wellness. You are making the world a better place! This month, we honor you! Elizabeth H. has been in care with Dr. Katie since July 2017 Why I came to New Day: I am a highly sensitive person and since childhood have been riddled with anxiety around things I cannot control. This caused an abundance of stress to build in my body and I’ve experienced physical tension, pain, and headaches regularly since my early teens. I sought Dr. Katie’s help in July 2017 because I was looking to eradicate these feelings of stress and anxiety that were really interfering with my quality of life. My body was consistently operating in “fight or flight” ... ...Read More...

They are the world, they are the future

They are the world. . . They are the future. . . When it comes to the need for spinal care, there may be someone you’re forgetting about! Great day to you, New Day community! When I was a kid growing up in the 1980s, I remember seeing a commercial on tv that confused me.  It was Sally Struthers promoting a campaign to “save the children.”  Some of you may remember this was part of a larger relief effort for parts of Africa struck by famine.  This was a pressing enough topic at the time that Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote a song about it. I remember on one occasion, after seeing one of these commercials, I turned and asked my mom a question, genuinely confused. “What about the grown-ups?  Why don’t we save them?” My mom, with an amused look on her face, explained to me that people generally care about helping children more than ... ...Read More...

Congratulations to Leo S., our October 2017 Practice Member of the Month! This month, we honor you! Leo S. has been in care with Dr. Katie since October 2016 Why I came to New Day:   Leo: Because my mama made me. Leo’s mom, Cin S.: It’s been my experience that often, what’s going on with my body/mind/spirit is being mirrored in Leo’s body/mind/spirit. New Day has been an invaluable tool in my healing, so of course I want to share that with my son! My chiropractic results: Leo: I feel a lot taller. And when I’m playing baseball, I feel like I can hit the ball a lot harder. Leo’s mom, Cin S.: He seems ... ...Read More...

What the world needs now, is ________, sweet ________

/ / Blog
What the world needs now, is ________, sweet ________ Is it love?  Is it chiropractic?  Is it something else??? Good morning, beautiful New Day! It doesn’t take a genius to notice that the world could use some more love right now.  News headlines speak of senseless violence and antagonism, harassment and violation, and easily invoke a sense of frustration, fear, or just annoyance. Not only that, but so much of the way our daily lives are organized at this point, from getting through traffic, to getting through the day at work, to having enough money to pay the bills, is in a way that can easily solidify our sense that life is a struggle.  A struggle that we endure alone. There’s no question, the world needs more love.  But where will we get it from? It’s always been important to me to organize my life around doing what I think ... ...Read More...

Special Opportunity!

Special Opportunity! Looking for ways to grow? Energy rich experiences? An opportunity to engage in Network Care at a deeper level? A special opportunity for a select group? If you think this might be you, read on! Good morning, New Day!  I know it’s not typical that I would reach out to you again so soon, but I have a good reason.  There is a lot going on right now– in all of our lives, and in the life of New Day! Rarely, and increasingly rarely over the past 2 years, have I had the opportunity to offer a day-long healing intensive for our most dedicated, enthusiastic practice members.  Your regular care– coming in routinely to get your brain and body functioning at the highest level possible– is the bedrock of your health and wellness. An intensive serves a different function. Intense, concentrated, powerful experiences allow us to raise our baseline ... ...Read More...

Meet Dr. Virginia! (Just in case you were thinking New Day is all about me)

/ / Blog
Good evening, New Day! Good morning, New Day! What is New Day, really? It would be easy to look at our website, emails, marketing, and take away that the experience at New Day is all about me. And in some ways it makes sense that it should seem that way. I created this business based on my own vision and ideas, and I use imagery and explanations that are true to my highest vision for chiropractic and Network Care. For example, the image of the sun, sunlight, and the concept of newness have always inspired and appealed to me (must be the Aries in me). In such ways, New Day has been a logical extension of myself. And then there’s the experience in the practice. I am the one you have your experience of Network Care through. There are some practice members who have had Network Spinal Analysis in other cities ... ...Read More...

Meet Tammy, newest member of our New Day team!

/ / Blog
Even though you may have already met in person at New Day, or outside of New Day, I wanted to take a moment to formally introduce you to our newest New Day team member!  She may be a new, or a familiar face 🙂 Tammy started her care over a year ago, and I have always known her to be a thoughtful, caring, and intelligent person.  In addition to working part time as an energy healer, she also is a gifted writer and has her own writing business.  Because of these qualities, I knew she would be a great addition to the front office, and has been helping us on Saturdays and covering for Amber. Here, Tammy shares her answers to some questions to help you get to know her more. How were you first introduced to New Day? My friend Joe from church invited me to one of the ... ...Read More...

Introducing our Practice Member of the Month – September 2017!

Congratulations to Katie S., our  September 2017 Practice Member of the Month! We are so grateful for who you are, the progress that you continue to make, and the commitment you have made to your spinal health and wellness. You are making the world a better place! This month, we honor you! Katie S. has been in care with Dr. Katie since May 2017 Why I came to New Day:   I was referred to Dr. Katie by my sister who kept telling me how amazing her experience had been.  I was feeling the worse back pain I’ve ever felt after years of on/off mild back pain.  I was at a point where I couldn’t do my normal activities or even sit for periods of time.  I needed help after years of self-treating and pretending like the pain would just go away by treating the symptoms and not the cause.   It ... ...Read More...

What happens when chiropractic “meets the press”?

/ / Blog
What happens when chiropractic “meets the press”? A chiropractor’s comments about a New York Times article about chiropractic Good morning, New Day! Last week I became aware of an article about chiropractic that was published in The New York Times this past May (not sure why I didn’t know about this until now!)  It’s not every day the chiropractic gets ANY press (let alone good press).  This article is noteworthy because the main message is at least somewhat favorable concerning the benefits of chiropractic. Despite the relatively lukewarm tone of the article and decidedly limited perspective it shares, any story coming from a major news source that helps the public learn more about the life changing, money saving benefits of chiropractic care is a major victory! The article, titled “For Bad Backs, It May Be Time to Rethink Biases About Chiropractors, can be seen here: https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/05/01/upshot/for-bad-backs-its-time-to-rethink-biases-about-chiropractors.html?mcubz=1&referer=http%3A%2F%2Fm.facebook.com It is important for me, as ... ...Read More...

When you experience better, DO better

/ / Blog
When you experience better, DO better Make a decision to be in the game Good day, New Day community! We’ve all probably heard the quote, “When you know better, do better.” According to the internet, this quote can be traced to Maya Angelou.  The idea, at it’s most simple, is not to let the “I don’t know” hold you back from taking action and moving forward in your life. It is in that process of boldly moving forward and experiencing yourself as powerful that we learn what needs to be learned and make the necessary course corrections. So often, I meet people who want to get better– whether that means getting better sleep, being more productive, feeling less pain and tension, etc– but they stop themselves from moving forward with a plan that’s being recommended because they “don’t know ______” (insert whatever it is that typically stops them from taking action). “I ... ...Read More...

Introducing our Practice Member of the Month – August 2017

Congratulations to Dan L., our August 2017 Practice Member of the Month! We are so grateful for who you are, the progress that you continue to make, and the commitment you have made to your spinal health and wellness. You are making the world a better place! This month, we honor you! Dan L. has been in care with Dr. Katie since July 2015 Why I came to New Day:   When I found New Day I was going through a divorce and at a point in my life that I knew I needed to make serious changes. Something bigger was driving me to find anything I could to get my life back on track. I came across someone talking about Network Care (Network Spinal Analysis), and I look into it a little bit more online and it sounded like something I needed. I was open to trying something new for ... ...Read More...

What if my problem is too serious for Network Care?

What if my problem is too serious for Network Care? Why you can’t afford to quit the financial literacy class Good morning, sunshines! I’m sure there are plenty of times when it’s easy for all of us to pat ourselves on the backs for being proactive in our health and wellness.  When we go to the gym or eat a kale salad, we know we are doing something for ourselves that will help us not just now, but in the future.  Similarly, by investing in care for your spine and nervous system through chiropractic, you get to feel good now and you are making an investment in yourself that research shows pays off in the long term, in terms of lower medical bills, medication use, and the like. But what happens when the going gets tough?  We wake up and find ourselves in extreme pain and don’t know why.  We ... ...Read More...

This month, we honor you! Caitlin N. has been in care with Dr. Katie since February 2017 Why I came to New Day:   I heard about Network Spinal Analysis and was referred to Dr. Katie by the Epic Impact Team. Zach, who I was coaching with at the time, told me to visit Dr. Katie and ask her to “show me the universe!” My chiropractic results: I have experienced some absolutely life-changing results already during my time as a New Day practice member. Not only do I feel taller and experience better posture, I also feel more clear-headed, energized, and optimistic. At my ... ...Read More...

Secrets to sweet smelling breath (with essential oils!)

/ / Blog
Good day, New Day oils enthusiasts! As you have been discovering, essential oils bring all kinds of magic into our lives.  Some of that magic comes in the form of emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing.  And some of that magic comes in the form of the most practical everyday uses. If you need a go-to for fresh breath that is actually GOOD for your health, I have a couple of suggestions for you! 1. For on-the-fly breath freshening, reach for your bottle of peppermint essential oil rather than gums, mints, and mouthwashes, which usually contain sugar or an artificial sweetener.   Sugars and artificial sweeteners can wreak all kinds of havoc on your dental health (not to mention you overall health), by dehydrating your mouth and encouraging the growth of bacteria between the teeth, in the gums, and on the tongue. Instead, dab a little peppermint oil on your finger ... ...Read More...

“Why don’t you take insurance?”

“Why don’t you take insurance?” Some obvious and maybe not so obvious reasons why not Happy morning, New Day community! As you have probably noticed, I often like to use these blogs to address your frequently asked questions about chiropractic, Network Care, and what makes our office different. We don’t always get a lot of questions about why we choose not to take insurance in our office, because I think for some of us with experience with insurance companies, the answers seem obvious. Of course there’s the sheer amount of time and effort that myself and Amber would need to put forth in order to receive (what little) insurance companies might be willing to pay for your care.  This extra time and effort devoted to something that has nothing to do with the quality of your care or experience at New Day would be prohibitive in and of itself.  But this ... ...Read More...

You’re allowed to have a bad day (and so am I!)

You’re allowed to have a bad day! (and so am I!) Good morning, bright New Day community! Long term relationships require dedication, commitment, and understanding.  We all know this.  We all take this for granted when it comes to our relationships with family, friends, and significant others.  We may even realize that these same ways of being are optimal for our relationship with our boss, employees, or coworkers. It might be more rare that we consider that the same is true for other long term relationships.  Even the ones we might think of as less necessary to our day-to-day wellbeing. When we screw up in relationships or the other person does, especially these relationships that don’t involve family or a significant other, it can seem a lot easier to leave than to stay and work things out. I was recently confronted by this choice involving the place where I buy cat ... ...Read More...

Introducing our Practice Member of the Month for June, 2017!

Congratulations to Kelly S, our June 2017 Practice Member of the Month! We are so grateful for who you are, the progress that you continue to make, and the commitment you have made to your spinal health and wellness. You are making the world a better place! This month, we honor you! Kelly S. has been with New Day since June, 2016 Why I came to New Day:   I heard about Network Spinal Analysis from my twin sister who lives on the west coast where this care is more common. After a minor car accident, I took the opportunity to come see what it was all about. The care made very short work of muscle tension related to the accident and then after that, I was hooked. I decided to bring my infant son to Dr. Katie after he was treated for multiple ear infections. Chiropractic care made medical sense ... ...Read More...

Bon voyage! Best of luck!

Bon voyage! Best of luck! New Day Practice Members lighting up the world wherever they go Good afternoon, New Day! Something that I didn’t think much about when I opened New Day 4 years ago is that part of my job would sometimes be saying “goodbye.” This may seem strange that this came as surprising to me, coming from someone for whom changing jobs, changing schools, changing careers, moving away, “starting over,” and saying goodbye had been a normal part of life since childhood.  In fact, when I was a kid I used to complain that it always seemed like we were moving just when I was finally becoming one of the cool kids at my school! The most permanent-feeling thing I have ever had in my life actually isn’t a home, a location, or even a person.  In a lot of ways it’s Network Care!  When I started receiving ... ...Read More...

This summer, play a little!

/ / Blog
Happy weekend, Essential Oils Enthusiasts 🙂 You know the saying.  “All work and no play makes _____ a very dull boy!” These days, thanks to many of us having the ability to do work from everywhere at any time, it can be easy to be all about the work. It can be even easier to be all work and no play for those of us who built pretty strong identities around being serious, hardworking people.  I’m sure there are a lot of us (and especially here in the Midwest).  Like any identity, it starts out as helpful but can be limiting. Take me, for example. I always had this idea about myself that there was something inherently serious and hardworking about me. Starting as a very young child, I compared myself to my little brother (only 1 year younger than me!) and I concluded that I was serious, mature, and generally devoid of silly, ... ...Read More...
