The greatest gift of all

/ / Blog
The greatest gift of all No, it’s not health.  But it’s related to health!  And the reason why I’m so pumped for this 5 year anniversary party! Good morning, shining stars!  It’s so good to connect with you.  Now that it’s 2 days away, I can tell you that I am so excited about the anniversary party on Saturday! I thought I was excited before.  And I was, but I was also very busy with the planning, inviting, etc, and I wasn’t at the point yet where I could look ahead, beyond the activity and responsibilities. Now I get to actually clearly envision the most gratifying aspect of this experience BEING with you, in community! As I often mention, community was the highest vision I had for New Day originally, but I had no idea how beautifully this would all play out, because I didn’t know YOU yet! Many of you ... ...Read More...

You can at least PRETEND it’s spring, with Young Living 😉

Happy, um, spring?! You can at least PRETEND it’s spring, with Young Living 😉 Happy spring, New Day oils enthusiasts! And when I say “happy spring,” I of course do so with my voice dripping with irony.  Ah yes, spring in Chicago.  A time for wind.  A time for sleet.  A time for snow.  A time to wonder if you should bite the bullet and buy another pair of gloves. We know it will get warm eventually, until then, some tips for comforting yourself like you would when it’s winter (but with some flowery, girly, spring smells!) You know what my top recommendation is for coping with April in Chicago, oils wise? JUVAFLEX! Why, you might ask?  I mean, you already may know that Juvaflex has been the oil of the month at New Day at least twice.  That I use it on our practice members at New Day quite ... ...Read More...

So much to celebrate

/ / Blog
Good morning, bright ones! If you’ve been to New Day recently, you hopefully have noticed some exciting changes in the physical space of our office.  For one thing, we have new signage in our front windows!  Yes, after almost 5 years I got the “download,” so to speak, that it was time to use that prime window “real estate” to further light up our Lincoln Square neighborhood, and to further broadcast to the world what this care and community is all about to Chicago and the world. I had delayed making the commitment to signage because it felt so permanent, and I wanted to get it right– words, look, tone, all of it.  Something that speaks to why we choose to take care of ourselves through ongoing care for the spine and nervous system.  It’s been really fun to see the reactions of our practice members to the signs, and ... ...Read More...

Introducing our Practice Member of the Month – March 2018!

/ / Blog
We are so grateful for who you are, the progress that you continue to make, and the commitment you have made to your spinal health and wellness. You are making the world a better place! We honor you this month and thank you for being part of our New Day community! Hilary J. has been under care with Dr. Katie since July 2016 Why I came to New Day:   My friend and fellow practice member, Cin S., recommended I come in for an evaluation. I was struggling with recurrent respiratory illnesses, plus all sorts of pain in my body that I’d been working on for years.  Cin was having an amazing experience with Dr Katie. When she explained how it works with the nervous system and therefore the issues that underlie the symptoms, I thought it sounded very intriguing and potentially healing. My chiropractic results: Without a doubt my ... ...Read More...

What am I paying for, again?

/ / Blog
What am I paying for, again? On the value of chiropractic Good morning, New Day! You’ve heard it before.  Maybe from your dad.  Maybe from your neighbor or coworker.  Maybe you’ve even thought it yourself before (or still sometimes do). “The problem with chiropractic is that when you start seeing a chiropractor, you have to go forever.  You’re stuck doing it all the time, for the rest of your life.” And who would be sitting there, considering going to a chiropractor for the first time, and think “Oh boy!  I can’t wait to sign up to do something for the rest of my life!” Very few people! It would be like going on a first date with someone and suddenly they’re talking to you about marriage.  And not just as a general concept, but talking about you marrying THEM.  That would be totally weird and uncomfortable, right? Not only would ... ...Read More...

Introducing our Practice Member of the Month – February 2018!

We are so grateful for who you are, the progress that you continue to make, and the commitment you have made to your spinal health and wellness. You are making the world a better place! We honor you this month and thank you for being part of our New Day community! Dave L. has been under care with Dr. Katie since December 2016 Why I came to New Day:   What lead me to Dr. Katie was participating in an Epic Impact event in San Francisco. It was there that I met Dr. Brian Lumb, who also practices NSA in Asheville, NC and he recommended that I come see Dr. Katie. Coming to New Day for my new patient appointment was my first experience receiving the care, but I trusted the process and the recommendation.   My chiropractic results: I noticed a difference, mentally and physically, after the first two ... ...Read More...

I AM (insert adjective here)

/ / Blog
I AM (insert adjective here) What are you practicing this week? Good morning, New Day! It’s not that often that I would be blogging again after just a week.  But I have something important to share! I have just arrived back in Chicago after attending Donny Epstein’s Gate in Colorado this weekend with Amber and 2 of our practice members.  Donny Epstein, the chiropractor who created Network Care, created the Gate as a healing intensive that anyone can come to and have an extraordinary experience of themselves and their connection to humanity through the care, and his other technologies. I know what you might be thinking “Extraordinary experience of themselves and their connection to humanity? Isn’t this about chiropractic?!”  Yes and no.  Network Care is the chiropractic application of a system in constant development by Donny Epstein called EpiEnergetics. The point of it all, through the chiropractic application and the ... ...Read More...

One thing the fire department WON’T help you with

One thing the fire department WON’T help you with (There are actually a lot of things they won’t help with) Good morning, New Day lovelies!  Today I want to discuss something very important with you that has come up in numerous conversations I have had with you, our community members.  Have you ever been in a car accident of any type?  Many, if not most of you, have.  And if you haven’t, surely you know someone who has. Despite the fact that there was an accident, many folks are out there walking around with the impression that this trauma had little or no impact on their spine and nervous system.  Maybe because they “walked away without a scratch,” or maybe because they didn’t have pain immediately after the accident, or maybe because the pain or problem they are having now doesn’t seem linked to this event in any obvious way, ... ...Read More...

What’s up with the music at New Day?

What’s up with the music at New Day? If you’ve ever wondered. . .yes There is some method to the madness! Great morning to you, New Day community! In the spirit of using blogs as an opportunity to answer frequently asked questions about Network Care, chiropractic, and the office, I thought it would be fun to share with you about the music you listen to when you’re at the office getting adjusted. You may have noticed, at this point, that it can be pretty eclectic! Eclectic, but not random.  This isn’t like the music that just happens to come through the speakers in between segments on NPR. The music in the adjusting room is more than just “background music.” The music is key for helping set an energetic and emotional tone for healing during your adjustments.  I choose the music for the morning or afternoon based on several factors. Yes, my mood ... ...Read More...

Why I came to New Day:   I met Dr. Katie in a personal development seminar this past summer. My awareness of my spinal tension and breath has allowed me to release a part of ... ...Read More...

From me, to we, to me. . .

From me, to we, to me. . . Good morning and happy New Year, New Day!  Let’s have this be our best year yet! New year.  New day.  New you.  New me. As you have probably gathered by this point in knowing me and my office, I love “new”! 5 years ago when I was busily preparing to open my practice, it was all about the “new.”  Everything, from the business license I needed to obtain, to the website, to the paint on the walls, to the water dispenser was new, new, new.  I loved being lost in the momentum of things, my brain humming constantly about everything I could and should be doing to get ready to open my doors that April of 2013. Over the next 5 years, I mostly poured all of myself into my practice, because that’s what you do when you have a new business ... ...Read More...

It’s a choice

It’s a choice Why do we limit ourselves? Good afternoon and happy holidays, New Day! I’m so excited to finally be sitting down to write a blog for you again! First I was busy preparing to go out of town.  Then, I was gone for a week at Tony Robbins “Date with Destiny” program.  And since then, I’ve been back in Chicago fighting my way through a TERRIBLE cold (ugh!!!).  These events have been occasion, as you can imagine, for all kinds of new awarenesses, a few of which I’ll share with you. First, let me tell you about the event.  6 days and 6 nights of jumping up and down, yelling, cheering, dancing, and intense personal growth work.  We would go until 1 or 2 in the morning, end up going to bed at 3:30AM, and wake up in the morning and do it all again.  It was an ... ...Read More...

Joan C. has been in care with Dr. Katie since April 2016 Why I came to New Day:   I first heard about Dr. Katie through a networking event at New Day. I was so impressed by her passion for her work and the impact that I saw it had on her practice members. I also loved that by donating to a good cause I had the opportunity for a free assessment!   My chiropractic results: Since working with Dr. Katie I noticed that my ... ...Read More...

What makes “the holidays,” “the holidays”?

What makes “The Holidays” “The Holidays”? Tips for creating the mood with Young Living essential oils Happy December, New Day oils enthusiasts! What makes the holidays so special?  Ask that question to 10 people and you’re likely to get 10 different answers. But the common thread in those 10 different answers is likely to be that it’s a mood.  It’s a feeling.  A feeling of magic and “specialness.” Essential oils are so perfect for setting a mood and creating a magical feeling of specialness! If thinking of the holidays instantly brings to mind for you the scent of cinnamon, clove, pine, and orange, using essential oils is a the perfect way to help set the holiday mood for you and your guests!  Diffuse a little Frankincense as well to bring even more holiday magic into the mix. But there’s also another way that essential oils can accentuate the mood of “specialness.” Did ... ...Read More...

Does everyone need chiropractic care?

/ / Blog
Does everyone need chiropractic care? And if so, should they all be in care at New Day? Your questions– answered! Good afternoon, New Day! Sometimes as chiropractors, we are seen as being overly simplistic in a world where complexity is highly valued. On television medical dramas the doctor who can uncover the the disease diagnosis (at the last minute, of course) is the hero.  And the more obscure the disease diagnosis and the greater amount of detective work that can go into putting it all together, the better. You never saw Dr. House check the heel tension and palpate the upper cervical spine of a patient and say, “There are indicators for adverse mechanical cord tension at C1.  Let’s adjust him so that his brain has the best opportunity possible to express health through the nerves, and THEN see if he needs surgery.”  It might make for a more exciting ... ...Read More...

Congratulations to Elizabeth H., our November 2017 Practice Member of the Month! We are so grateful for who you are, the progress that you continue to make, and the commitment you have made to your spinal health and wellness. You are making the world a better place! This month, we honor you! Elizabeth H. has been in care with Dr. Katie since July 2017 Why I came to New Day: I am a highly sensitive person and since childhood have been riddled with anxiety around things I cannot control. This caused an abundance of stress to build in my body and I’ve experienced physical tension, pain, and headaches regularly since my early teens. I sought Dr. Katie’s help in July 2017 because I was looking to eradicate these feelings of stress and anxiety that were really interfering with my quality of life. My body was consistently operating in “fight or flight” ... ...Read More...

They are the world, they are the future

They are the world. . . They are the future. . . When it comes to the need for spinal care, there may be someone you’re forgetting about! Great day to you, New Day community! When I was a kid growing up in the 1980s, I remember seeing a commercial on tv that confused me.  It was Sally Struthers promoting a campaign to “save the children.”  Some of you may remember this was part of a larger relief effort for parts of Africa struck by famine.  This was a pressing enough topic at the time that Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote a song about it. I remember on one occasion, after seeing one of these commercials, I turned and asked my mom a question, genuinely confused. “What about the grown-ups?  Why don’t we save them?” My mom, with an amused look on her face, explained to me that people generally care about helping children more than ... ...Read More...

This month, we honor you! Leo S. has been in care with Dr. Katie since October 2016 Why I came to New Day:   Leo: Because my mama made me. Leo’s mom, Cin S.: It’s been my experience that often, what’s going on with my body/mind/spirit is being mirrored in Leo’s body/mind/spirit. New Day has been an invaluable tool in my healing, so of course I want to share that with my son! My chiropractic results: Leo: I feel a lot taller. And when I’m playing baseball, I feel like I can hit the ball a lot harder. Leo’s mom, Cin S.: He seems ... ...Read More...

What the world needs now, is ________, sweet ________

/ / Blog
What the world needs now, is ________, sweet ________ Is it love?  Is it chiropractic?  Is it something else??? Good morning, beautiful New Day! It doesn’t take a genius to notice that the world could use some more love right now.  News headlines speak of senseless violence and antagonism, harassment and violation, and easily invoke a sense of frustration, fear, or just annoyance. Not only that, but so much of the way our daily lives are organized at this point, from getting through traffic, to getting through the day at work, to having enough money to pay the bills, is in a way that can easily solidify our sense that life is a struggle.  A struggle that we endure alone. There’s no question, the world needs more love.  But where will we get it from? It’s always been important to me to organize my life around doing what I think ... ...Read More...

Special Opportunity!

Special Opportunity! Looking for ways to grow? Energy rich experiences? An opportunity to engage in Network Care at a deeper level? A special opportunity for a select group? If you think this might be you, read on! Good morning, New Day!  I know it’s not typical that I would reach out to you again so soon, but I have a good reason.  There is a lot going on right now– in all of our lives, and in the life of New Day! Rarely, and increasingly rarely over the past 2 years, have I had the opportunity to offer a day-long healing intensive for our most dedicated, enthusiastic practice members.  Your regular care– coming in routinely to get your brain and body functioning at the highest level possible– is the bedrock of your health and wellness. An intensive serves a different function. Intense, concentrated, powerful experiences allow us to raise our baseline ... ...Read More...
